#ProTip: Instagram Hashtags Tips & Tricks

I’ve been asked numerous times for tips and/or tricks regarding Instagram, and the effective use of hashtags. It’s not that I didn’t want to share any of the information I’ve come to learn or figured out over the years, quite frankly I was just too lazy to write them down, but alas, here I am. After an interesting twitter conversation with a few online friends, I thought now would be as good a time as any to share some valuable and useful tips & tricks surrounding the use of Instagram Hashtags. So here we go.

=========

First, you can only use 30 hashtags (Max) at a time on any picture. I would highly suggest using Statigram to search, find out, and choose which are the most popular and used tags that suit your pictures, or target your audience best, it’s also an extremely powerful program to help you monitor stats surrounding your Instagram account(s). Personally, I tend to select and only use relevant hashtags that best describe my photos.

Next, copy and save each individual Hashtag to your phone’s notepad. Collect a fair amount of hashtags so that you can alternate between 30 at a time. You will then be able to Copy & Paste en masse whenever you need to use them. Plus, it’s much easier than having to remember and type them individually.

Don’t include your hashtags in the original photo description, since you will need to delete your group of 30 after an hour or so (refer to image below), because they’re such busy hashtags… your picture will be pushed to the bottom of the stream and no one will see them anymore. This is when you can add 30 new hashtags from your notepad collection in the comment section. By doing this, it will allow your picture to appear to a whole new group of Instagram users who follow those particular hashtags. Not only does this give your picture more exposure to get more LIKES, but you’ll also gain new followers who might be interested in your photo stream and share similar interests.

Last and definitely not least. Once you’ve used all your collection of hashtags, I like to go back and delete all the excessive ones that I’ve added after the original description. For me, it takes away from the image itself and it looks cluttered (this is completely personal, and optional).

I hope this works for you as it’s worked for me, and that maybe some of your work makes it to the Popular Page 🙂

Cheers!
