REVIEW: Gotye @ Kool Haus 03/31/2012

This past Saturday I was able to catch one of the hottest acts out of Australia, Gotye, who’s song ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has gone viral worldwide, and has catapulted the 31 year old to number 1 in 13 different countries. The song is of an event I’m sure many of us have experienced before, a bad breakup. The kind where all ties are cut and they never speak, see, or deal with you again. The album is a nice mix of organic sounds, synths and heavy basslines, and I was curious to hear him live. Many might not be a fan of his mish-mash of sounds and styles, but I’ve never been one who believes that any artist or musician should/has to be stuck with a particular ‘sound’. That said, I’m sure he’ll fall under pressure to come up with a similar sounding track on his next album.

Gotye Live @ Kool Haus (Eyes Wide Open)

My only complaint with the performance of his Mega-hit was that the microphones were either too low, or he wasn’t singing loud enough and I could hear people’s voices over the actual song performance. Aside from that, it was a song that everyone sang along with & knew the lyrics to. The crowd gave a loud cheer when Kimbra (the female singer) joined the stage to sing her part. However, since it was the main song most of the people in the audience came to see/hear, sadly many left immediately after it was performed.

Until the next event, see you on the dancefloor.
